..and progress was made.
Honestly, it's a miracle. I almost had a flimsy by March 31, but embroidery digitizing homework got in the way. But...I was very happy to have an epiphany moment while working on the homework (almost at the last minute) that made me feel so good about moving forward. I have, of late, been questioning my desire to commit to digitizing all the files I want to stitch for quilting my quilts. But that tiny peephole of light I saw last Monday was what spurred me on.
Antelope Canyon will be a flimsy soon-ish...the ...

Noah and Friends Book Quilt – click here to download the pattern.
I designed this quilt for the Noah and Friends collection by Lindsey Sagar for Blank Quilting. It measures 44″ x 53″ and the blocks finish at 8″.
The fun thing about making a quilt using a book panel is that it will surely be enjoyed a lot longer than just the book. As children outgrow the story, they will probably ...

Things are moving very slowly here. The instructions for my new project, a replica of Jane Austen’s coverlet, call for starching all the fabrics before cutting anything out, How far did I get on this project? I bought the starch………so there is no news on this project. I bought two kinds, Best Press and a brand that the local quilt store recommended. I will let you know which one I like the best.
A new project: I am making a baby quilt for a close friend’s baby shower. She is having her first baby ...
read moreI removed all of the fabrics that had a stripe pattern from yesterday's choices. That narrowed it down to 3.
This one might show the best contrast between the light edge strips and the sashing fabric.
This is the original fabric I showed a couple days ago. Now I just need to study these photos and make my decision.
My niece was in town visiting her parents so I invited her over to choose a couple baby quilts for her first grandchild, a little girl. This was her choice for the baby's house.
And this was her choice ... read more
Yes... Christine and I were at quilting retreats two weekends in a row! I had a second set of projects lined up to take to our annual Spring Oxford Guild retreat before the Camp Kintail retreat. The truth is that I could go on even more retreats and still come up with projects to work on. Christine is in the same boat!
I finished up my chain link blocks for the vice president's challenge--I have decided to set them on point but have not decided if I want to add sashing or not before sewing them together. I will ...
read moreChristine and I spent last weekend at Camp Kintail at the crafter's retreat. Others were making paper crafts, scrapbooks, knitting and painting. Four participants were quilting. It's always fun to see what everyone is making. The food and snacks were plentiful and tasty too.
My first project was an open wide zipper pouch that I had started at home. This one may just stay here for me to use. This project was a good place to use the large scale print that I loved but would not be good to cut up into smaller pieces

The other two are baby quilts to add to my selection for parents and grandparents to choose from. In the center is a quilt made from a pile of blocks using leftovers from another quilt and a large print. It is 32" x 34.5", perfect for tummy time for a baby. On the right is ...
read moreThe quilting was finished yesterday, the quilt trimmed and now it was time to choose a binding. At first I thought a multicolor stripe, but then I decided black and white might be better.
Here are my three choices. There were many more to choose from but I settled on these.
This stripe has the most white in it and the black lines are curvy.
The black lines are straight and closer together on this one.
It's always fun to find a diagonal stripe in the stash. This one is darker than the other two. I'll make a ... read more
The basting was done before noon and quilting started last night. I finally found the quilt that these bright leftovers are from. Here is a post that shows the quilt top. It's no wonder I couldn't remember it because it was 13 1/2 years ago.
I decided on straight line quilting and got it over half quilted. The lines aren't perfectly straight but I challenge any baby to complain about it.
It's supposed to reach 60 degrees today and then snow predicted both weekend days.

Snowmaggedon is being re-nicknamed to Snowzilla. Or Sleetzilla. The snow came and came and finally stopped Sunday, and sleet was off and on all day Saturday and I think that night. But we’re still warm and toasty inside, and if we wanted to go anywhere, we couldn’t. I’m ok with it. The windchill has us in the negative digits this weekend and Monday; no thawing will happen until Tuesday afternoon at the earliest, but it will take awhile for this stuff to go away.
The photo above is ...
read moreAll babies are special, and the ones in my life get a quilt.
I know I have said this on multiple occasions, but my granddaughter Cheyanne told me via FaceTime that she was going to have another baby ON MY BIRTHDAY. I was just giddy! But a sequence of events has pushed the arrival to an earlier date. I finished piecing the baby quilt top in November, but had put off the quilting of it until we got a little closer to the April due date. But we also know that babies come when they tell you they are coming ...
read moreI didn't want to deal with keeping pink checks or plaid straight for binding so I used the gray one that had enough yardage. This flannel baby quilt is 32" x 40".
This little quilt has Hobbs 80/20 batting in it. I used white thread to quilt it on my Pfaff 7570.
This pile of mail that I have received in 9 days is 19 solicitations for money. There is even 2 from each of 2 organizations, like I didn't react soon enough so I need a 'reminder'. Obviously some charity sold my address to some data ... read more
The machine ditch quilting is done on this flannel baby quilt now. The squares are 4" and that is the recommended maximum space with Hobbs 80/20 batting.
The backing is a cute diagonal plaid. I haven't decided on binding yet but will look for it today.
It's going to be cold over the weekend so I'm glad I don't have anywhere to go.

My friend who visited on Monday wanted to buy some black and white batik fabrics for this quilt. I had the fabrics in 2 bins and had large and small pieces all mixed together.
I want to sort through them now and get all of the small pieces in one bin and large pieces in the other bin. There is a lot more ... read more
A friend came over to use my double design wall in the basement yesterday so I was down there pressing several fabrics, including the alternate block fabric in this little quilt top. This ended up 32" x 36". I am really pleased with it, especially since it used orphan blocks and a large print that was an impulse buy on sale. It will get quilted next month.
Last night I pulled this basket off a shelf to take a look through it. It is 2.5" batik strips, all shorter than full width (43"). It's almost overwhelming how many ... read more
I decided to go with #3 choice from my previous post. I not only liked it best, it is also one of those hard to use prints because of the size of motifs. It will be perfect in 8.5" x 9.5" blocks.
While I was at it, I chose a backing fabric too. This is a surprise project, not at all planned, started just by looking through drawers of sewn pieces. I need to turn the iron on today and press fabrics so I can do some cutting. I also sewed the top and bottom borders on the ...
read moreWhen I got home from PT yesterday I basted this little pinwheel quilt and started quilting it last night. I'm ditch quilting this one with white thread. I have 9 more rows to stitch and then I can trim it and choose binding. I have a feeling it will be a black and white stipe binding.
I wasn't sure if I was going to order any of the new Kaffe line "from the archives" since I still had some pieces of the original fabrics. There were however 2 that I didn't have and 4 that I was ... read more
This quilt was made from a couple trays of plaid squares that were cut several years ago. I made 16 patch blocks and then went to the design wall for the layout. It is 39" x 47". It has Hobbs 80/20 batting in it and was quilted on my Pfaff.
I had this cute farm print fabric that is on the back in my stash. The binding is a yarn dyed woven stripe.
I think the binding looks good with the fabrics on both sides of the quilt.
I had a dishcloth near a finish so I worked on ... read more
